With immense pride great pleasure chairman welcomes you in website of RSBOS.ORG, RAJASTHAN STATE BOARD OF OPEN SCHOOLING (RSBOS) has entered into its adulthood and completed two decades of its existence in the field of open and distance learning in the school education sector. This journey of the institute has been quit successful with about 5000 students on its roll , RSBOS is credited to be the largest open school in the world with significant popularity in the commom wealth countries and in certain other developing and developed countries. RSBOS has been offering secondary and Senior Secondary courses through its study centers and open basic education programme through accredited aggencies.

RSBOS not only a wide spectrum of courses of study up to the pre- degree level for all categories of learner but also world as a nodal institute for carrying forward the open school moment in the country in the order to achieve the objective of developing an inclusive learning society.

this has been possible due to the dedication and imstinting support from all faculty and staff of the institute and other state holders. however these are some tasks and issues that need quick intervention and concerned atttention as indicated below. The national curriculum framework has posted several challenges of education before all of us, particularly in the school education sector not only what is to be learned but also to ensure the effectiveness of the process learning . if emphasis giving more freedom and antomy to the learner there is a need to revisit the curriculum of RSBOS for making learning more and more learner oriented.

RSBOS need to focus more on those disadvantages groups of the society , who have been discriminated against getting the education for long due to varied socio-economic reasons. we are in the process of developing workable and implementable action plans with uplifting them in the social structure by providing relevant and need based quality education.

Resides SC,ST,Girls and differntly abled , RSBOS has visualized a programme of education of minorities.

The programme for education of minorities has already been started and it is in the process of expansion. in recent years, modern technologies have been playing various roles. among others things, the information and communication technologies (ICT) is being used widely by RSBOS in the school education area, particularly at the secondary and senior secondary levels. A comprehnsive vision and prespective plan is being developed to harness the benefits of ICT for faciliating Teaching learning and other ODL endeavours. We are taking several steps for empowering the distance learners through our own efforts and by using the public private partnership (PPP) modex of cooperation and collaboration. Some of the significant ICT based programmes that need focused attention are -

• Online Admission
• On-Demand Examination System (ODES)
• Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS)
• 24/7 Admission Facility

Capacity building of functionaries is integral to the ODL system. RSBOS is developing a comprehensive system to ensure that capacity-building activities become an integral component of all levels, including those working under State Open Schools (SOS). These efforts will make the open schooling system a vibrant agent to meet the challenge of capacity building at both national and international levels, with support from international agencies like the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and UNESCO.

In any instructional process , including ODL,research is an integral component of not only to strengthen the sysytem internally but also to contribute significantly to meet natinal and societal goals.This area needs to be given significant attension for strenthening the the instructional process as well as for making education relevant and need based to the learners . These efforts will prove useful in placing the open schooling Programme on a sound pedested.RSBOS is making concerted efforts to development of OdL system, particulary at the school level . by establishing a network of open schools to the further strengten the open schooling movement in the country with the support from government of india and state Governments as envisaged in the xi plan by the planning commision,RSBOS therefore has to take a lead role in the setting up of the state open schools in all the states.

There is a need to bring a happy balance between expectations from the institute and actual contribution made by it to society. Our endevour would be to make the student a student a good human being and a useful member of society. In this context,providing suitable vocational education and training (VET) to specific groups who wants to enter the world of is our priority agenda to be implemented mainly through PPP mode. societal expectations do not have any limits, however one must strive to make concerned efforts to meet these expectations as far as possible. The ODL system like of RSBOS therefore,has to work with in the parameters of expectations and contributing substantinally to the nations endeavores for universalization of school education .
